Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
The Starling brings glory to its name with its white spotted and in all rainbow colours shining feathering. Its song includes many imitations of other birds. This mimicking is a form of imitation, which is learned only in the nestling phase. In earlier ages they were also described as bastard-nightingales. Starlings can mimic voices of many animals, also anthropogenic ones. For example, they can imitate barking dogs or horse neighing, coming cars, mobile-phone ringing or police sirens. But they also have some specific, loud and roughly estimating whistling’s. The starling can be identified from far away, because this bird, like no other bird, wildly flaps its wings and is hardly chattering its beak while singing.
